Job Interview: #1 Best Tip to Prepare

Spread the love

Hey folks, this is Kim, welcome to Today we’re coming to you live!

Today I’m going to talk about the single most important thing you need to do to prepare for a job interview!

There are a lot of things we need to do to prepare for an interview: what to wear, company research, prepared questions to ask but what you must do to rise head and shoulders above other candidates is prepare examples.

I’ll explain. Let’s say the interviewer asks if you are team player. Yes, I’m a team player.

Interviewer: Can you give me an example?

Most people will hem and haw with their response, well, huh, let me think, everyone really likes me at work and we all work together really well. That’s a mediocre response but what would be better is a solid example.

Now, you don’t need 10 different examples for every question they may or may not be asked of you. If you prepare in advance by thinking of a couple, 2 or 3 stories of your past work history that really highlight your strengths, it will likely help you answer multiple questions. If you have no work experience yet, use examples from school.

So, say there was a project you completed at your current position. Maybe you had to work long hours to complete it which shows that you are dedicated. Maybe you had to pull together with other teammates to get it done: teamwork. Maybe this situation required you to collect tons of information to prepare the project which could show you are organized. I f you walk into the interview with these examples at top of mind, you’ll be able to ace most any question.

A much better response than hemming and hawing, struggling to think of an example would be if you offer the example before they even ask for one.

So, interviewer: “Are you a team player?”

You: Yes, absolutely. For example, I was put on a project once which we were given at the last minute and I had to work closely with two of my teammates, sometimes till late at night to get it done. I do what I need to do to get my work done by the deadline.

That’s an impressive response! And this preparation will automatically give you the confidence you need from the minute you walk in the door!
